For my website I decided to go with the choice of two sans serif fonts to increase readability as it is an online publication and because I have used dark backgrounds throughout most of the pages. Sans serif fonts are easier on the eyes when displayed online, as the poor resolution that some screens have can make serif fonts pixelated and hard to read. Additionally, the extra details of serif fonts can be more distracting as body text in online formats, when displayed on smaller screens such as phones or iPads (IADT, 2011). Choosing sans serif fonts was also a reference to the advertising industry, which often uses sans serif fonts for short, bold headlines as they are better for catching attention due to their modern and streamlined aesthetic (IADT, 2011 & Kliever, 2018). When a page is busy with bright colours and other visual elements, sans serif fonts can appear friendly and minimal, because of their stylish simplicity and can help to create a clear, crisp design (Easil, 2018 & Kliever,2018), which balances the other elements.
For my header, I chose the font Lulo Clean. It is an all capital font, which is both sharp, yet rounded and creates a clear stand out appearance against busy backgrounds. It is bold, attention grabbing and has a modern yet serious look which generates the feeling of trust and stability (Waters, 2016 & White Space Studio, 2017). This font also has a creative, youthful and dynamic feel. I thought it was an appropriate representation of me, as I am both creative and analytical.
For my body font, I chose the font Futura. Futura is a simple, clean font which is highly versatile and is a popular because it works well in both print and digital formats, as headings or body text and has an extensive range of weights, which help with design elements (Penney, 2016 & Harris, 2017). Futura ended up being the perfect choice to reflect my personal brand, as it is representative of Bauhaus style and is made up entirely of geometric forms- triangles, squares and near circles (Penney, 2016). This ties in with my geometric banner and helps create the modern, friendly, forward thinking and cutting-edge feel (Fussel, 2017).
